Volunteers play a vital role in the operation of our organization. The volunteer program is designed to allow individuals in the community to contribute to the mission of the organization. It is through your willingness to share of your time and compassion that our programs are enhanced.

Volunteer Opportunities
At ElderCare Edmonton we offer a wide range of opportunities from assisting at the program to sitting on the board. There is something for every skill level and/or interest. We offer a wide range of opportunities and a few ways you may be able to help are as follows:
- Program Volunteer
Provide support to staff and seniors by assisting with our daily program activities. A few ways you may be able to help include:
- Greeting and assisting clients as they arrive.
- Setting up the room for daily activities and games.
- Socializing with clients (i.e. reminiscing, playing card games & chatting).
- Assisting with lunch and coffee break.
- Sitting with clients and encouraging activity participation. (i.e. crafts, exercises, discussion etc.).
- Office Volunteer
Provide additional administrative support to the head office staff by:
- Helping with company mail outs
- Filing documents
- Assisting with general office duties such as photocopying, faxing and typing

- Special Events
Donate your time and effort to support specific fundraising events or other public events as they arise.
- Leadership
Gain valuable leadership experience by volunteering as a Board Member or Committee Member. Board members assist the organization with strategic planning and direction. Members meet for approximately 2 hours once per month in the evening.
- Entertainment
Share your talent and provide entertainment to a captive audience. Our day program would love a volunteer to:
- Play music
- Bring your pet for a friendly visit
- Conduct a Sing-A-Long
- Provide an individual or group dance Performance

Frequently Asked Questions
How much time do I have to commit?
- Different volunteer roles have different levels of commitment. However, the minimum commitment you would be expected to fulfill would be approximately 3 hours per month.
How will I be prepared?
- All new volunteers receive a formal orientation and training session. Depending on the volunteer position this may mean an hour during your first day or ongoing training until you feel comfortable in your new role.
How can I get the most out of my experience?
- Everyone volunteers for different reasons. Some people volunteer to expand their horizons, develop new skills and try new ones. The best advice is to decide if you want to pursue new interests or use your existing skills in a different environment. There is an opportunity for everyone.

What type of screening process do I need to do?
- Depending on the volunteer position you apply for, most candidates are given a tour of the program and asked to complete an application form. Those candidates who would like to work at the program will need to further complete a confidentiality agreement, non-client abuse agreement and a background check. These steps are necessary to ensure every volunteer is screened and prepared for the role they’ve been assigned.
